In loving memory
2025

Albert Tharp
The Wyoming Senior Olympics community comes together in deep sorrow as we honor the life and legacy of Albert Byron Tharp—a cherished volunteer, Archery Commissioner, and dear friend whose presence uplifted everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Albert passed away on November 27, 2025, after facing unexpected complications following heart surgery. While our hearts are heavy, we are profoundly grateful for the extraordinary impact he made on our organization and on all who crossed his path.
A Legacy of Service, Kindness, and Quiet Strength
Born in Cheyenne on May 8, 1943, Albert lived a life grounded in family, hard work, and community service. Throughout his career with trade contractors, Civil Service Engineering, and various local organizations, he exemplified dedication and integrity. His love for archery and his leadership within the Wyoming Senior Olympics brought joy to athletes, volunteers, and spectators alike.
Albert served WSO with remarkable dedication. As Archery Commissioner, he approached every event with thoughtfulness, humor, and heartfelt pride. His encouragement lifted spirits, and his calm presence steadied even the busiest competition days. He embodied the very best of what our organization stands for. As an archery athlete, Albert consistently placed in the top three at the Wyoming Senior Olympics and competed at Nationals in 2019 at the Albuquerque National Senior Games, where he placed 13th.
In 2025, we were honored to recognize Albert at our Hall of Fame Banquet as one of our Top Volunteers—a moment made even more meaningful now. The memory of celebrating him, along with the warmth of his grateful hug, will stay with us always.
On a personal note, Albert meant so much to me. His encouragement, humor, and quiet strength were gifts I cherished more than he ever knew. He was someone I could count on—not only as a volunteer and Archery Commissioner, but as a true friend. His belief in WSO, and in me personally, brought light to many challenging days, and I am forever grateful for the time we shared. I will miss him deeply.
A Beloved Husband, Father, and Friend
Albert is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Mary, who was the heart of his world. He was a devoted father to five children—John (Chris), J. Kurt, Stephanie, Kevin, and Justin (Becky)—and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather to many. His family, rich in number and love, was the greatest reflection of the man he was: generous, steady, and deeply caring.
He will also be remembered by his siblings, extended family, and countless friends whose lives were enriched by his kindness, wit, and unwavering support.
A Final Gift of Generosity
In a touching final act of generosity, Albert requested that memorial donations be made to the Wyoming Senior Olympics—an incredible testament to his belief in our mission and his lifelong dedication to uplifting older adults in our community. We are humbled by his support and will honor him by ensuring his legacy lives on through the athletes and programs he cared about so deeply.
Forever in Our Hearts
Albert’s passing leaves a space that cannot be filled, but his gentle, encouraging, and steadfast spirit will continue to guide and inspire us. His contributions to WSO and to the lives of so many will never be forgotten.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Mary, their family, and all who loved him.
Rest in peace, Albert. Your legacy shines on.
