Joe Dedic of Cheyenne, Wyoming, exemplifies dedication both in his athletic pursuits and his commitment to promoting sports among seniors. As a key figure, our president, in the Wyoming Senior Olympics (WSO), his contributions have significantly enriched the state's athletic community.
Athletic Achievements
Joe Dedic's athletic career began in his high school years at Kelly Walsh High School in Casper, where his remarkable talent shone in football, wrestling, and track. In 1983, he earned the title of All-State Athlete in all three sports and set the 4A discus record with an impressive throw of 172' 4". His stellar performance earned him a spot as a finalist for the Milward Simpson Award that same year. Joe’s collegiate athletic career further exemplified his dedication and skill. After starting at the University of Wyoming on a track scholarship, he transferred to Snow College in 1985, where he played football and led his team to a Junior College National Championship. Joe’s journey continued at Indiana University, where he played in both the All-American Bowl and the Peach Bowl as a Hoosier, culminating in his role as team captain for the 1985 National Champions. His contributions were so impactful that he was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Snow Junior College, cementing his legacy in collegiate sports. Joe's prowess in track and field is well-recognized. At the National Senior Games in 2019, he clinched the gold medal in the Men's Shot Put 50-54 category with a throw of 10.98 meters (36 feet 0¼ inches).
His performance not only highlights his athleticism but also sets a benchmark for peers in his age group.

Beyond personal achievements, Joe has been instrumental in expanding athletic opportunities for seniors across Wyoming. Serving as the president of the Wyoming Senior Olympics, he played a pivotal role in introducing events like the hammer throw to the state competitions. Joe's dedication extends to actively participating in events that promote senior sports. His involvement in organizing clinics and tournaments, such as pickleball sessions, underscores his commitment to making sports accessible and enjoyable for seniors. A Vision for the Future
In addition to his professional and athletic achievements, Joe is a proud father to two accomplished daughters, Maddison and Paighten, both recent graduates of Kelly Walsh High School. He navigated the challenges of single fatherhood with dedication and love, raising two brilliant and athletic young women. Maddison and Paighten have followed in their father's footsteps, excelling in sports and pursuing careers in coaching girls' volleyball and track in Casper.
When he's not advocating for senior athletes or working in asset management, Joe enjoys spending time with his family and indulging in his creative side. A hobbyist with a keen eye for repurposing materials, Joe uses his Sailrite Fabricator Industrial Sewing Machine to create custom bags for sports like discus, shot put, hammer, and pickleball, showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to sustainability.
